In short, copywriting is writing that persuades the audience to take action. It is most often used in writing for marketing and advertising. Copywriting connects with the audience through a need that they have and provides a solution while helping them to understand why that solution is a great one for them. To accomplish this, copywriters put themselves in the shoes of the target audience and come up with creative ways to reach them. The challenge in figuring out how best to do this is one reason why copywriting is so much fun. As a bonus copywriters are well paid! Copywriters can (and many do) make 6 figures.
Copywriting versus Content Writing
Content Writing
Is designed to entertain the audience, and sometimes to inspire and engage them.
Examples: blogs, lists of favourite recipes, how-to articles, telling a story, etc…
Fee structure: often by the word
Copywriting
Concise to get the message across in as few words as possible. The process involves strategically choosing words so that the audience takes a specific action or rethinks their opinion. Copywriting is highly skilled, requiring training, as copywriters need to think strategically and understand the different forms of copy.
Examples: Web sales page, emails, Facebook ads, billboards, magazine ads, direct mail, etc…
Fee structure: by the project or on retainer – accounts for the time to brainstorm, edit, and write concise and well-crafted copy.
While copywriters may also write content, they will charge their standard copywriting rates, as they will use their copywriting skills in producing content pieces.
How I Became A Copywriter

About a year ago I joined the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy after watching this free video training. Through the courses, I’ve learned the principles of copywriting, how to write copy for a variety of digital and print media, and how to land copywriting work and build my own freelance business. The CCA provides lifetime access, so I can learn at my own pace and go back and review whatever sections I need at any time to assist with completing client projects.
Now I’m building my client roster and working towards replacing my teaching income. It’s a process but I can see what’s possible. As long as I continue to take action toward my goals I know that I will get there.

How Email Newsletters Can Build Your Business
Reach More Clients & Boost Your Profits

Email newsletters are a powerful and cost-effective tool for building your business. They allow you to regularly connect with your audience, staying top of mind, while promoting your products or services. Depending on the email service provider (ESP) that you choose, you can also gain valuable information from your customers and clients. One example of an ESP is moosend.
Here are just a few ways that email newsletters can have a positive effect on your business for a great return on investment.
1. Grow Your Brand Awareness
A regular email newsletter that includes content that is relevant to subscribers and contains valuable information about your brand can help to build a relationship with your audience. It allows you to share promotions and product updates, and highlight ways customers are using your products and services.
2. Build A Loyal Audience & Find Leads
Lead magnets are very helpful in building your audience and finding leads. Simple lead magnets like an ebook, bonus tips, or simply a discount for signing up are great ways to increase newsletter subscriptions to your newsletter. This increases your audience so that more potential clients see valuable and engaging content that you send them on a regular basis. By regularly connecting with your subscribers you build customer loyalty. Your audience will be more likely to become repeat customers and recommend your business to others.
3. Cost-Effective Marketing
Email newsletters are affordable with an excellent ROI. Depending on your ESP, they may even be free! As with everything, the more you spend the more tools and options you will have access to in creating and sending your email newsletters to your subscribers. The main costs are in writing and producing the newsletters. By hiring a copywriter to write the emails, you will free up your staff’s time and your time to complete other important tasks.
4. Drive Traffic & Increase Sales
Emails are a great way to direct your audience to new content on your site, Whether that’s a new blog post highlighting a new product or a new sale or promotion. With increased traffic to your site, you’ll find an improvement in your search engine optimization (SEO), making it easier for your site to be found through web searches. The exclusive discounts and offers that you share in your emails will get more people on your site to make a purchase, even if they purchase something else.
5. Learn About Your Target Audience
Your ESP will provide you with data you can analyse to learn about your audience. You’ll see your subscription rate, open rate, and which links get clicked (click-through rate). You can test out different subject lines or calls to action through an A/B split test, where you send out one version to a subset of your subscribers and a second version to another group. By testing these small differences you can learn what resonates with your audience. You can learn what content and offers captivate your audience and adjust your strategy accordingly.
6. Stay Top-Of-Mind
By showing up in your clients’ inboxes on a regular basis you are often on their minds. As you are consistently providing them with valuable and helpful content, when they need a product or service in your industry they will think of you.
If you have yet to step into to work of email newsletters give it a try and see how your business can grow. Connect with new subscribers with a lead magnet that fits your business and keep them engaged with useful content and exclusive offers. They will keep coming back to purchase from you and recommend you to their colleagues and friends.
